Summer Learning Journey Week Two Day Five Activity 1,2 and 3

Activity 1 Week Two Day Five
Learning Intention: What do you think about this rule? Is it fair that people are charged up to $100 000 for over-fishing?
On your blog, tell us what you think about this rule and why you think it!
I think that this rule about being charged money for over fishing is definitely fair. I think being charged is fair for over-fishing because this can cause a huge impact on our sea life. Over-fishing has a huge impact on our sea life because if everyone that fishes fished over the limit on how much you were allowed to catch there won't be any thing left in our ocean. Also, there wouldn't just be nothing left in our ocean but different species of a certain fish would decrease into endangered and next will be extinction.
Activity 2 Week Two Day Five Learning Intention: Use Google to help you find two other polluted rivers in New Zealand other than the Tapawera River.

On your blog, tell us:
1) The names of the rivers. 2) The location of the rivers. 3) What is being done to clean up the rivers (if anything).
The first river I am going to talk to you about is the Manawatu River found in New Zealand. This river is being polluted by the dairy farms and towns close by with the sewage. The Manawatu River is found 12 km east of Palmerston North in the North Island of NZ. This river is being helped by two groups joining and trying to contribute this river and help people get involved to help.
The second river I am going to write about is my local Grey River. This river is highly polluted by sewage from Greymouth and flooding issues. The Grey River is found flowing between the Cobden and Blaketown tip of Greymouth in the South Island of NZ. Whats being done to help the Grey River is by us having this water system that can measure how much rain fall happens each day and from this they can be aware of flooding in the river and to stop this pollution.
Activity 3 Week Two Day Five Learning Intention: On your blog, list three different ideas or strategies for raising funds to preserve the Great Barrier Reef. What could you do to fund raise here in New Zealand?

1)The first idea that came to my mind to help fund raise for the great barrier reef is to walk around town or ask stores is they would like to put how much money they want into a bucket like a piggy bank but I will say what its for and why they could help.

2) Since I am still in primary school I could help the Great Barrier Reef by doing a mufti day at my school and each child who wears clothes other than their school uniform have to give $2 to the office to be wearing mufti.

3) Lastly I can help fund raise for the Great Barrier Reef is by selling $2 raffle tickets on a stool in my local supermarket. These people that come and buy my tickets also write their phone number in a square with a labelled number. Once people put their phone number in I can do a random number picker and it would pick a random number and what ever number that won and had gotten picked gets prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

  1. Hiya Jack!

Thanks for the awesome post! You are a magnificent blogger!

    Activity one
Your piece on over fishing was quite interesting and I think you raised some very strong points! Like you said there won't be anything left in our ocean and that the different species of a certain fish would decrease into endangered zone and next to extinction. Losing one species is tragic because those species that eat them and are eaten by them are also affected. You are on your way to writing a wonderful persuasive argument.
    Pat yourself on the back!

    Activity two
That is quite unfortunate that Manawatu River and Grey River are polluted. I love swimming in local water holes, waterfall and rivers. New Zealand needs to work together to prevent further pollution. Do you think there should be a law that charges people money for destroying our rivers? How much do you think it should be?

    Activity three
These are such wonderful ideas! Imagine if every school in New Zealand does one day a week of mufti for 4 weeks. I like how you mentioned shops and store keepers! A Lot of people are passionate about our local rivers and would love to contribute to preserving them.

    Keep up the great work!
