Summer Learning Journey Week One Day Two, Activity 1, 2 and 3

Activity 1 Week One Day Two, Giant among us
Learning Intention: On your blog, tell us whether you would like to go and visit Tāne Mahuta one day. Be sure to tell us why you do (or do not) want to visit this endemic tree.

Yes I would want to visit the Tāne Mahuta Tree. I would want to visit this tree because it is the largest tree in New Zealand. It would also be every cool to see it before it dies.

Activity 2 Week One Day Two, (Ferns) Learning Intention: On your blog list three sports teams that have the word ‘fern’ in their title. Beside each team’s name, post a picture of their uniform. Then, at the bottom of your blog post tell us which of the three uniforms you like best and why.

The sports team uniform I like the best is the Silver Ferns. I like the Silver Ferns uniform the best because they not only have their netball positions on their uniform but they have a grey fern going up the left side of their uniform.

Activity 3 Week One Day Two, Cactus Problem

Learning Intention: On your blog, tell us how to solve this maths problem. You can write your answer in words, use a Sketchpad image, or post a video explaining how you would figure it out. Be sure to give us your final answer in millilitres (ml).

My Working
To figure out how much water you need to give your cactus you could go 3 x 365 which equals 1095. If it was a leap year you would figure it out by going 3 x 366 which equals 1098 ml of water needed.

  1. Hi Jack

Hopefully you will be able to go and see Tane Mahuta someday. I would really like to think that they will be able to get the disease under control that is effecting the kauri trees in Northland.
I have been lucky enough to have seen Tane Mahuta and it really is a magnificent giant of the forest. It is great that the people that visit the forest are obeying the rules and washing their shoes when they enter and leave the forest, this will hopefully stop the spread of the disease. You will have to add this to this list of places that you want to visit.

You have chosen three really great New Zealand sports teams. We really do have some talented sports people here in New Zealand. I agree with you when about the silver ferns uniform. They way the fern goes up the dress is very effective and stands out well against the black.
It's great to see you using images to illustrate your blog posts. Every time that we use an image on our blog, it's really important that we tell our readers where we found it, and give credit to the owner of the picture. To properly credit a picture you will need to include a link to the site where you found the image. We have created a guide that you might find helpful. You can check it out here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1VKjkMGwBrk2YI6Vtmg91OAQljr_T3ZSV6YZtu6MWFNM/edit

It is great to see that you have worked out this maths problem. I really like that you have thought about it and included what the answer would be if it was a leap year. Well done Jack!
If you could please think about next time showing your working out for the problem. It is always good to be able to show just how you worked it out. Obviously you like maths, which is really great.

Keep up the great work Jack. You are doing a fantastic job.

    Until next time

    Allie :)
